THE VOICES OF DIGBETH

The creative community of Digbeth, Birmingham were interviewed to obtain a deeper understanding about the place. Three core questions were asked, about the place, about the upcoming redevelopment and their opinion of its identity.

STORY DEVELOPMENT

GROUP MODEL - final product

The final model then produced, with the waltz act as a datum, then the chronological order of the city from present to the predicted future.
The mirror plays its part by only working at certain angle to allow the viewer to see glimpses of the untold site.
Parametric mesh marks a time when HS2 is introduced, and people were forced to fit into the architecture, and in the end, the architecture itself shapes the people.

GROUP MODEL - the "present"

As far as the group model progress, I were to think of the present of Digbeth. I see it as a dead unwelcoming place, yet when I went through the site, I see more of it; a value I otherwise unable to see.

I then represent my thoughts using broken mirror. It emits an unwelcoming dangerous feelings but triggers a sense of curiousness to the viewer. As you look at it at a different angle, you will start to see that the centre piece be reflected back to your eyes in a specific amount.

You will then realize - just like the site itself - that there is more to the model, it's just that you have to look at it at a different perspective.

GROUP MODEL - study model

An initial model was made - and the model is made to portray a transition, it shows the 'waltz' or the existing human scale being broken apart by an invisible force such as the redevelopment.
